It's now time to break into the top 25 of my 50 funniest movies. I've been doing some work the past few weeks, so I haven't been able to do this, because, well, I haven't even had time for myself. So, without further delay, I give you the top 25.
25A. Good Morning, Vietnam - Yes, I do have a tie. I didn't really know where to place these two, because they aren't my typical comedy, but they are both very good films. So, because of that, I wanted to give them a top 25 placing, but save room for others that I enjoyed a bit more. Good Morning, Vietnam to me is just a good movie in general. Robin Williams is one of the funniest people (although he can be a little overbearing at times) and he really has the chance to shine in this movie which was largely improved. It's a great comedy, and a very good movie. "Soldier, what does three up and three down mean to you?!" "The end of an inning?"
25B. O Brother, Where Art Thou? - Great movie. It's funnier every time I watch it. It's a very character driven movie, which is why it's very good, because there are some great characters in it. Tim Blake Nelson and John Turturo are unbelievably funny in it and even Clooney is great. It is an overall very good film and certainly worthy of my top 25. "Them syreens did this to Pete. They loved him up and turned him into a horny toad."
24. Major League I and II - Oh, man do I love these movies. They are hysterical. Every time they're on, I have to watch them. This movie is full of great lines and great characters. Possibly the greatest of them all is Bob Uecker as Harry Doyle. He is probably the funniest character in the whole movie. But there are others that are pretty funny as well. Pedro Cerrano is very funny and is played by an excellent actor (you fans of great television might recognize his as President David Palmer from 24). These are great movies and they're probably next on my purchase list. "The post game show is brought to you by... [searches through papers] Christ, I can't find it... To hell with it!"
23. Zoolander - I love Ben Stiller. This is such a funny movie. It's full of great moments, lines, and characters. If you love stupid humor, you will love this movie. Stiller is great as Derek Zoolander, the dim-witted male supermodel. Not only is he great, but there are so many wonderful comedic actors in it. Owen Wilson as Hansel, Will Ferrell as evil fashion designer Mugatu, and of course Stiller's father Jerry as his agent Maury Ballstein. It also has one of the funniest movie scenese of all time in it: the walk-off. So funny. A great concept and plot for a movie that worked wonderfully. This movie is great! "I became... bulimic." "[gasp] You can read minds?"
22. Ferris Bueller's Day Off - This movie inspired me. It's about one man's struggle to take it easy. Matthew Broderick played this part beautifully. He did such a great job. The movie was wonderfully written and it was just a very good comedy. The paranoid Cameron was just as funny as Ferris. Of course everybody thinks of Ben Stein when this movie is brought up, but people rarely remember the sausage king of Chicago or Cameron's call to the principal. There's much more to this film than people remember. "If you're not over here in fifteen minutes, you can find a new best friend." "You've been saying that since the fifth grade..."
21. Swingers - This movie is hysterical. It is the first comedy with Vince Vaughn and it was written, wonderfully I might add, by Jon Favreau. It's kind of a dry comedy, but I think it is very funny. Vince Vaughn is so funny, and he shows the world what's to come as far as his acting ability in comedy is concerned. Favreau is funny as well. When he calls that girl and leaves messages on her machine over and over before she finally answers and tells him to never call again... I was in tears. As far as this movie goes... It's money, baby! "What are you carrying a gun for? What, in case somebody steps to you, Snoop Dogg?"
So there's a few of the top 25. More to come soon. Until then, let the debating begin!
